Rio Real Golf Course, Marbella
Originally designed by Spanish architect Javier Arana the
Rio Real Golf Course was opened in early 1965 and is one
of the oldest and longest standing golf courses on the Costa
Del Sol. Located 3 kilometers east of the town of Marbella
the Rio Real golf course offers long fairways, raised greens
and formidable bunkers. This course has
been in existence for over fifty years and was named after
the Real river, which comes into play on several of the fairways.
Its a scenic course even though it is on the whole, flat.
On the par 3 sixth be wary of the out of bounds on the right
and the river on the left butm with the right club, you should
reach the green - if not youll need your skills to get out
of the surrounding bunkers.
Keep left of the par 4 eighth otherwise you'll be hunting
for your ball on the ninth fairway - or amongst the dividing
palm trees. On the par 4 tenth don't worry if you don't reach
the dogleg on the fairway with the first shot - nobody is
perfect! Choose your second shot to the green - if you play
short it will be much easier. If you decide to go for it
- over the pines and hill - hold your breath until fellow-players
audibly cofirm your success.
As par 5 thirteenth is the longest and most spectacular
hole, imitate Tiger Woods be reaching the green in three
strokes if you can.
